Getty, Flickr reach image license deal

Getty Images says it will exclusively offer its customers the right to license images from Flickr. Within a few months, Getty plans to have a mechanism in place that will assess images, posted to Flickr, for their technical, legal and subject-matter suitability for commercial use.
Flickr users will be paid in the same manner as professionals if their images are used commercially. Getty customers usually pay between $29 and $200,000 for an image, depending on how freely they may use it. Photographers receive 30 percent to 40 percent of the licensing fee if the customer's rights to use the image are limited in scope or time. Flickr users will be able to declare whether they want their images considered for commercial use. Keep your eyes on this to see if it really will benefit photographers. Thanks to photographer/blogger Luna-See for bringing this to my attention.
