We lost two big names in photography in the past 7 days. Peter Gowland on March 17th and Jim Marshall yesterday.Gowland photographed many aspiring actresses of the 50's and 60's, including Ann-Margret, Tina Louise, Joey Heatherton, Yvette Mimieux and Julie Newmar and was one of the first to photograph Jayne Mansfield in a bikini. He became one of the most famous glamour pin-up photographers not only of the day, but perhaps ever. Gowland also developed and manufactured the Gowlandflex camera, a twin lens 4x5 camera. Read more.
Marshall gained fame for his phot
os of Johnny Cash, Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix and the Allman Brothers. He had more than 500 record album covers to his credit. But, he may be best-known for his iconic images from the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival and Woodstock in 1969. Read more.
